Yggdrasil, the Great Tree
Yggdrasil,
the Great Tree, is an enormous tree, many hundreds of feet tall, on the
far western edge of the Great Forest. It dwarfs every other tree in the
forest many times over, and is the home of Calliope, the Elemental
of earth, to the West, and is the seat of her power. Of all the places
in the Lands, the light around the Great Tree is the closest one comes
to something resembling sunlight. The tree itself almost seems to glow
with an internal light of joy and peace. This is the home of Calliope,
and is thus infused with her essence, the essence of joy and happiness.
Of all the Elementals, she is the only one who allows anyone to live permanently
in her home. butterfly is a broken sort of child, manic and delusional,
and could not survive on hir own, and so Calliope in her great compassion
keeps hir safe in her home, the only place in the lands in which such
a child could hope to live in peace and safety. Of all the Elementals
we feel the most indebted and the closest to her, the one out of them
all who seems to truly care about the well-being of those who live within
the Lands.
